North America's Giant Predator Gallery

Description

North America may not be as insane as Africa for large predator diversity in the Mesozoic, but it had a few very large ones and many still much larger than any modern land predator. It also had the largest known theropod and the most famous dinosaur of all, Tyrannosaurus. From the Late Jurassic predators Allosaurus and Torvosaurus to Early-Middle Cretaceous carcharodontosaurs and eventually the late Cretaceous tyrannosaurs, a large host of predators have lived on the continent. Allosaurus fragilis is not really one of the 7 largest theropods of North American history but it's notable so I included it. Both species of Albertosaurus were larger than it... I think.

Major revamp of the chart, same animals mostly but different sizes based on new information and new silhouettes

7/4/18
It's probably the 4th of July, so I updated the chart with more accurate silhouettes, sizes, and a new predator.

From Left to Right:

Tyrannosaurus rex
~12.35 meters long
~8800 kilograms
Notes: By far the largest North American theropod known, many specimens over 7 tonnes. Shown here is the largest, Sue.

Acrocanthosaurus atokensis
~11.55 meters long
~6110 kilograms
Notes: Fran specimen is depicted here.

Allosaurus maximus
~10.6 meters long
~4100 kilograms
Notes: Sometimes referred to as "Saurophaganax."

Daspletosaurus torosus
~10.1 meters long
~3950 kilograms
Notes: This large Daspletosaurus is the Pete III specimen. Other known Daspletosaurus were smaller.

Siats meekerorum

~10.4 meters long
~3600 kilograms
Notes: Not fully grown, mature size unknown.

Torvosaurus tanneri
~10.5 meters long
~3100-3300 kilograms
Notes: This is "Edmarka." Largest T. tanneri that is not "Edmarka" specimen is ~10.2 meters and ~2800 kilograms.

Albertosaurus libratus
~9.3 meters long
~3050 kilograms
Notes: Commonly known as "Gorgosaurus." A bit larger than A. sarcophagus, which is not depicted here.

Allosaurus fragilis
~9.1 meters long
~2400 kilograms
Notes: Very famous Jurassic predator.

I do not take credit for the skeletals used. Credit goes to to following people for skeletals and edits to skeletals:
